Video Production Cumbria:  Last month, after getting back from an intense four days at Iris Prize Festival 2015, we were invited by English Lakes Hotels to join them for a whisky tasting night at The Wild Boar in Crook.

A bit of a last minute gig, but it was an exciting opportunity, so we leapt at the opportunity.  Our cameraman Neelan J had previously attended whisky tastings at The Wild Boar, so knew that it was going to be a fun night.

What was a pleasant surprise was the type of tasting it was to be…

We got to be involved in Glenfiddich’s Solera (15 year single malt) ‘Deconstruction’.  Participants were invited to sample the 15 year old, and then attempt to ‘recreate’ it using the primary whiskies used in the blending.

One of the main things is it’s getting people to really, really smell and taste,” says Grant’s Eric Robson who was heading the night’s proceedings.

“With most tasting it’s over quite quickly…what’s really good about this process, here, is that they’re having to take each individual component part and really analyze what it is.”

We also spoke to one of the participants, Michael Siegal, who described the whole evening very succinctly: “Really engaging, giving us an opportunity to re-create … how they actually create and distill the whiskies.  What was nice too was the camaraderie; everybody enjoyed it.  It was good fun!”
